Have you been sitting on an idea that can help people with special needs or disabilities? Are you waiting for the “perfect time” to get started on it? Well today’s guest is here to show us that there is no time like the present and no matter what your situation, you can always find a way to utilize your talents and resources… and help people in a big way.
In 2008, Ian Mackay was attending University of California Santa Cruz and crashed his bicycle on his way home from campus sustaining a C2 spinal cord injury. This “accident’ resulted in ventilator support for the first year afterwards, rehabilitation, and ultimately, a new life without the ability to feel or move below the neck/shoulders.
Since then, he has started three different support groups on the Olympic Peninsula for people with Spinal Cord Injuries. He has also started his own 501 © 3 nonprofit, Ian’s Ride, to help advocate for the trail community throughout Washington state. In 2016, and again in 2018, Ian rode his wheelchair across the state of Washington to highlight the need for more accessible trails in Washington state.
Stay passionate and be committed
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Write, get yourself out there, make yourself relevant.
Thanks to Ian Mackay for joining us!
