• Practice (adding WHAT to say)
• Model (adding WHO to talk to)

Presenter(s): Kate Ahern
Date: Tuesday 9/22 @ 5:00PM PT / 8:00PM ET – 90 Minutes
Description: In mid-March 2020 when Covid-19 closed local schools, Kate Ahern of AAC Voice sought to offer a few online groups for AAC users. As the weeks passed these courses turned into an online school that in the first sixteen weeks would serve over 100 children and young adults from across the USA and Canada as well as several other nations. The students attending showed gains in a variety of AAC and social skills.
Presenter(s): Sarah Gregory MA, CCC-SLP
Date: Wednesday 9/23 5:00PM PT / 8:00PM ET – 60 Minutes
Description: As school buildings closed in March 2020 due to the global pandemic, many SLPs and educators had to quickly pivot to virtual learning. This meant navigating technology to provide one of the cornerstones of AAC support; modeling! In this session, Sarah Gregory will explore tools to provide both dynamic and static display modeling on a variety of AAC systems. She will also show technology tools that can be used to incorporate AAC icons into teletherapy activities. Participants will leave with a variety of tools and strategies to provide modeling or Aided Language Input on a virtual platform.
Presenter(s): Brandi Wentland MA, CCC-SLP and Deanna Wagner MS, CCC-SLP
Date: Thursday 9/24 5:00PM PT / 8:00PM ET – 60 Minutes
Description: Want to learn how to help your clients/students become more connected with other augmentative and alternative communication users? Have you heard about social groups like “Out & About” and have always wanted to know how to get started? This course will walk you through each step to bring your idea into reality. During this course, participants will have an opportunity to reflect with others on roles and responsibilities to design an event, connect individuals within their communities, be inspired by engaging activities that showcase and celebrate multiple forms of communication.
Presenter(s): Lauren S. Enders MA, CCC-SLP
Date: Friday 9/25 5:00PM PT / 8:00PM ET – 60 Minutes
Description: When you get a new tool that will get lots of use (such as a cell phone or computer), you probably begin to customize it right away. That’s because tools are most useful when they fit your needs and preferences perfectly! It’s hard to imagine a more important tool than an AAC system that allows its owner to communicate and connect with others. In this session, participants will learn about considerations and strategies for customizing AAC systems for the people who use them. Vocabulary selection and customization, physical system personalization (decoration, carry straps, etc.), voice selection, visual considerations (icons, buttons, and backgrounds), navigational efficiency, motor plan consistency, social language access, and backups will be discussed. A resource document with relevant links will be provided to all course attendees.
